Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
