The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
