The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
