In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
