The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
