Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. 1 (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah). 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 saying, 'O my Lord, behold the bones within me are feeble and my head is all aflame with hoariness. And in calling on Thee, my Lord, I have never been hitherto unprosperous. 4 And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' 8 He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 Thereupon he came out of the sanctuary unto his people and signified to them [by gestures]: "Extol His limitless glory by day and by night!" 11 (We said:) "O John, hold fast to the Book;" and We gave him wisdom right from boyhood, 12 And compassion from Ourselves, and chastity; and he was extremely pious. 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
