Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 and raised couches, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
