Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
