The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
