The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM MIM. 1 The Romans have been defeated. 2 In the nearby land, and after their defeat they will soon be victorious. 3 in a few years. To Allah belongs the Command before and after, and on that Day the believers will rejoice 4 in God's succour: [for] He gives succour to whomever He wills, since He alone is almighty, a dispenser of grace. 5 It is a promise of Allah. Allah faileth not His promise, but most of mankind know not. 6 They know the outward of this world's life, but of the hereafter they are absolutely heedless. 7 Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 Then evil was the consequence to those who dealt in evil, because they denied the revelations of Allah and made a mock of them. 10
