۞ No sooner the example of the son of Mary was mentioned than, lo and behold, your people raised a clamour 57 And they said, "Are your gods better, or is he?" They did not present the comparison except for [mere] argument. But, [in fact], they are a people prone to dispute. 58 [As for Jesus,] he was nothing but [a human being] a servant [of Ours] whom We had graced [with prophethood,] and whom We made an example for the children of Israel. 59 if We had so wished, We could have appointed angels in exchange for you to succeed you on the earth. 60 And indeed Eisa is a sign* of the Last Day, therefore do not ever doubt in the Last Day, and obey Me**; this is the Straight Path. (* The advent of Prophet Eisa to earth for the second time. ** By obeying the Noble Messenger.) 61 And let not the Satan hinder you; verily he is unto you an enemy manifest. 62 NOW WHEN Jesus came [to his people] with all evidence of the truth, he said: "I have now come unto you with wisdom, and to make clear unto you some of that on which you are at variance: hence, be conscious of God, and pay heed unto me. 63 "For Allah, He is my Lord and your Lord: so worship ye Him: this is a Straight Way." 64 But parties from among them differed, so woe to those who were unjust because of the chastisement of a painful day. 65 What are they waiting for – except the Last Day, that it may suddenly come upon them while they are unaware? 66 Friends on that day shall be foes to one another, but the god-fearing. 67
