Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HaMeem 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 The command that We have been sending 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
