The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nigh unto men has drawn their reckoning, while they in heedlessness are yet turning away; 1 Whenever a new revelation comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it in a playful manner, 2 their hearts set on passing delights; yet they who are [thus] bent on wrongdoing conceal their innermost thoughts [when they say to one another,] "Is this [Muhammad] anything but a mortal like yourselves? Will you, then, yield to [his] spellbinding eloquence with your eyes open?" 3 The Prophet said, "My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing." 4 Yet they say: "These are only confused dreams," or rather: "He has invented them;" or: "He is only a poet. Let him therefore bring a miracle to us as the earlier (apostles) were sent with." 5 Not one habitation that We destroyed before them had believed. So how can they believe? 6 And We sent not before thee but men unto whom We revealed; so ask the people of the admonition if ye know not. 7 And We did not make them bodies not eating the food, and they were not to abide (forever). 8 Then We made Our promise good to them, so We delivered them and those whom We pleased, and We destroyed the extravagant. 9 Now We have sent down to you a Book wherein is your Remembrance; will you not understand? 10
