Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
