The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
