The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
