He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Not this way this is the advice. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
Almighty God's Truth.
