Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 The multiple and the one, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
