The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And the day resplendent 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
