In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
