Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The true event! 1 And what is that indubitable event? 2 And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is? 3 The people of Thamud and Ad denied the Day of Judgment. 4 The Thamuds were destroyed by a violent blast of sound. 5 And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind 6 which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. 7 Do you then see of them one remaining? 8 And Fir'awn and those before him and the overturned cities committed sin. 9 They defied their Lord's messenger, so He seized them with an ever-tightening grip. 10 Lo, when the waters rose, We bore you in the running ship 11 so that We might make it an instructive event for you, and retentive ears might preserve its memory. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound a single blast. 13 And the earth and the mountains are borne away and crushed with a single crushing. 14 Then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall, 15 And the heaven shall cleave asunder, so that on that day it shall be frail, 16 And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them. 17 The Day whereon ye shall be mustered nothing hidden by you shall be hidden. 18 On that Day, he whose Record is given to him in his right hand will say: “Lo! Read my Record! 19 Verily I was sure that I would be handed over my account.” 20 And he will be in a life of Bliss, 21 In a lofty Paradise, 22 The fruit clusters of which are hanging down. 23 (And it will be said unto those therein): Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days. 24 And as for him who is given his book in his left hand he shall say: O would that my book had never been given me: 25 "And that I had never realised how my account (stood)! 26 I wish my death had been the decisive one. 27 "Of no profit to me has been my wealth! 28 "My power and arguments (to defend myself) have gone from me!" 29 [Thereupon the command will go forth:] "Lay hold of him, and shackle him, 30 and then let him enter Hell. 31 And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits. 32 for he did not believe in Almighty God, 33 nor would he urge the feeding of the poor. 34 Today he shall have no loyal friend here, 35 neither any food saving foul pus, 36 "Which none do eat but those in sin." 37
