The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
