The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
