The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
