The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
