In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations [with Dawah work]. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
