Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 Serene soul, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
