The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And the day resplendent 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
