Whatever hardship befalls you is the result of your own deeds. God pardons many of your sins. 30 You cannot thwart Him on the earth, and have no friend or helper apart from Him. 31 Among His signs are the ships sailing like mountains on the sea: 32 if He willed, He could bring the wind to a standstill and they would lie motionless on the surface of the sea, truly there are signs in this for anyone who is steadfast and grateful, 33 Or He may destroy them because of that which they have earned, and He may pardon many of them. 34 But let those know, who dispute about Our Signs, that there is for them no way of escape. 35 That which you have been given is but the enjoyment of the present life. Better and more enduring is that which Allah has for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord. 36 who refrain from heinous sins and gross indecencies; who forgive when they are angry; 37 those who answer their Lord, establish the prayers, and their affairs are by consultation; who spend of that which We have given them, 38 and who, when insolence visits them, do help themselves -- 39 The retribution of a harmful deed is the harm equal to it; so whoever forgives and makes amends, so his reward is upon Allah; indeed He does not befriend the unjust. 40 And whoever defends himself after his being oppressed, these it is against whom there is no way (to blame). 41 blame falls only on those who wrong men and transgress on this earth without justification, such will have a painful punishment, 42 And whoever is patient and forgiving, these most surely are actions due to courage. 43
