A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
