The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
