Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 in a sublime garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions ranged 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
