The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
