Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
