He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
