Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
