The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We will now call the guards! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
