The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
