Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ This is a chapter which We have revealed to you and made obligatory for you to follow its guidance. We have revealed clear verses in it so that perhaps you may take heed. 1 The adulteress and the adulterer: scourge each one of the twain with a hundred stripes. And let not tenderness rake hold of you in regarad to the twain in the law of Allah, if ye have come to believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let witness this torment a band of the believers. 2 The adulterer shall marry only an adulteress or a polytheist woman, and an adulteress shall marry only an adulterer or a polytheist man; such marriages are forbidden for believers. 3 And those who cast it up on women in wedlock, and then bring not four witnesses, scourge them with eighty stripes, and do not accept any testimony of theirs ever; those -- they are the ungodly, 4 Except those who repent thereafter and do righteous deeds, (for such) verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. 5 One who accuses his wife and has no witnesses except himself shall swear four times by God that his charge is true, 6 and the fifth time, that the curse of Allah shall be upon him, if he should be of the liars. 7 But it will prevent punishment from her if she gives four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is of the liars. 8 and a fifth time, that the wrath of God shall be upon her, if he should be of the truthful. 9 And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is Accepting of repentance and Wise. 10
