And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 You and your fathers? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a true friend; 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
