Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
