The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 and defilement flee! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 May he be condemned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
