The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruits abounding 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
