Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 "We are ruined, 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
