Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
