The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
