The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 He verily will be content. 21
