The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 May he be condemned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 He looked (at others); 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
