He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
