The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
